About HealthEx

HealthEx is the leading consumer health data infrastructure company, backed by General Catalyst. As a TEFCA-designated Individual Access Services (IAS) provider, we enable patients to securely access their complete health records from provider networks nationwide and share them with the AI platforms and digital health companies they trust. Our “connect once, share everywhere” model is becoming essential infrastructure for patient-facing AI and digital health applications.

We’re at an inflection point—our integration with Anthropic’s Claude, partnerships with major enterprises, and growing pipeline of digital health and payer platforms have created significant commercial momentum. We’re scaling our commercial team to match.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Director of Business Development to drive new revenue by hunting and closing deals with top-tier digital health platforms and payer organizations. You’ll own the full sales cycle—from prospecting and outreach through negotiation and close—targeting the companies building the next generation of patient-facing health applications.

This is a high-autonomy, high-impact role on a small but scaling commercial team. You’ll work closely with the CCO and cross-functional partners to develop account strategies, shape go-to-market positioning, and build the relationships that define HealthEx’s market leadership. The right person will see this as a platform to grow into a broader commercial leadership role as the company scales.

What You’ll Do

Hunt & Close New Business

  • Identify, engage, and close enterprise deals with digital health platforms, payer organizations, and AI-native health companies.

  • Build and manage a robust pipeline through proactive outreach, industry networking, conference engagement, and strategic prospecting.

  • Own complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles with technical and executive buyers, navigating procurement, security, and compliance reviews.

  • Consistently meet or exceed quarterly bookings targets.

Drive Strategic Partnerships

  • Develop deep relationships with senior leaders at target accounts, positioning HealthEx as essential data infrastructure.

  • Map partner ecosystems and identify co-sell, integration, and channel opportunities that accelerate deal velocity.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to prospects on health data interoperability, TEFCA, and consumer-permissioned data sharing.

Shape Go-to-Market Strategy

  • Collaborate with the CCO to refine ideal customer profiles, segment prioritization, and competitive positioning.

  • Translate market and customer signals into actionable product feedback for engineering and product teams.

  • Develop compelling value propositions and ROI frameworks tailored to digital health and payer audiences.

  • Contribute to sales collateral, RFP responses, and proposal development.

Customer Success & Expansion

  • Partner with accounts through implementation and go-live, ensuring strong time-to-value.

  • Identify upsell and expansion opportunities within the existing customer base.

  • Drive high partner retention by maintaining close executive relationships post-close.

Who You Are

  • Proven hunter: You have a track record of sourcing and closing six- and seven-figure enterprise deals in healthcare, health-tech, or enterprise SaaS—not just managing inbound.

  • Digital health fluency: You understand the payer and digital health landscape—platforms, data flows, regulatory dynamics (HIPAA, TEFCA, FHIR)—and can speak credibly with technical and business stakeholders.

  • Entrepreneurial drive: You thrive in fast-moving startup environments where you’re building process and playbook alongside closing deals.

  • Strategic thinker: You see beyond individual deals to identify patterns, market opportunities, and scalable approaches.

  • Executive communicator: You’re polished and persuasive with C-level audiences, both in writing and in person.

  • Collaborative operator: You work effectively across product, engineering, and leadership to advance deals and improve the customer experience.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in business development or enterprise sales, with a consistent record of closing complex deals.

  • Deep experience in digital health, health-tech, payer/insurance, or healthcare data—ideally selling to platform or enterprise buyers.

  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (TEFCA, FHIR, HL7) is a strong plus.

  • Experience in early- to growth-stage startups or similarly fast-paced, high-ownership environments.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or equivalent experience is a plus.

  • Willingness to travel 1–2 days per week for customer and partner meetings.

Why HealthEx

  • Market-defining moment: HealthEx is at the center of the consumer health data revolution—our technology powers how patients share records with AI and digital health tools.

  • Real traction: Live integrations with Anthropic’s Claude, a growing enterprise pipeline, and strong investor backing from General Catalyst.

  • Equity upside: Meaningful stock options in an early-stage company with accelerating momentum.

  • Growth trajectory: Join a scaling commercial team with a clear path to broader leadership as the company grows.

  • Mission that matters: Every deal you close puts patients in control of their health data.

  • Competitive compensation: Attractive base salary, uncapped variable compensation, and comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).

  • Flexibility: San Francisco preferred with flexible work arrangements; other locations considered for the right candidate.
