Marketing Manager/Director

About Us

HealthEx is on a mission to give patients more control over their health data while transforming how healthcare stakeholders collaborate. As an early-stage startup, we're fast, flexible, and passionate about using technology to improve patient outcomes. We're looking for an experienced Marketing Manager/Director who thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to help shape the future of healthcare data.

Role Overview

As our first marketing hire, you will partner with the company's founders to build HealthEx's marketing function from the ground up—establishing core programs that drive enterprise pipeline growth while building brand awareness among patients and consumers. Reporting directly to the CCO, you'll be a player-coach: rolling up your sleeves to execute campaigns, manage events, and coordinate with agency partners while also architecting our long-term marketing strategy. This role spans demand generation, product marketing, event strategy, website evolution, social media, and communications—all with a primary focus on accelerating B2B pipeline and revenue growth. Beyond immediate execution, you'll build the foundation for a marketing organization, with the opportunity to hire and mentor future team members as we scale. This high-impact role positions you for broader leadership as HealthEx grows.

What You'll Do

1. Demand Generation & Pipeline Growth

  • Design and execute integrated campaigns that generate qualified leads and accelerate enterprise sales cycles.

  • Partner closely with Business Development to align marketing programs with pipeline targets and ARR goals.

  • Develop account-based marketing strategies for key target segments (health systems, payers, life sciences, digital health platforms).

  • Track and optimize marketing's contribution to pipeline, revenue, and deal velocity.

2. Brand & Product Marketing

  • Refine HealthEx's positioning, messaging, and value propositions for multiple audiences (enterprise buyers, developers, patients).

  • Create compelling content that translates technical capabilities into business outcomes—case studies, solution briefs, pitch decks, website copy.

  • Launch major product releases and partnership announcements with coordinated, high-impact campaigns.

  • Build thought leadership through content strategy, speaking opportunities, and industry engagement.

3. Events & Industry Presence

  • Plan and execute HealthEx's presence at major healthcare and technology conferences (HIMSS, VIVE, JPM, HLTH, etc).

  • Manage end-to-end event logistics: booth strategy, collateral, meetings, sponsorships, and post-event follow-up.

  • Identify and prioritize the right mix of events to maximize enterprise pipeline impact and brand visibility.

4. Social Media Strategy & Execution

  • Own HealthEx's social media presence across LinkedIn, Twitter/X, and other relevant platforms.

  • Develop content calendar and posting strategy that balances B2B thought leadership with consumer engagement.

  • Create and curate content that drives awareness, engagement, and inbound interest.

  • Monitor social conversations, engage with community, and identify opportunities for brand participation.

  • Track social media metrics and optimize strategy based on performance.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy & Planning

  • Develop quarterly marketing plans aligned with company Hills to Climb, revenue targets, and product roadmap.

  • Define and track key marketing metrics: lead generation, pipeline influence, website traffic, social engagement, brand awareness.

  • Conduct market and competitive analysis to inform positioning and campaign strategy.

  • Build marketing budget and allocate resources across programs for maximum ROI.

Hands-On Execution

  • Coordinate with communications agency on PR strategy, media relations, and announcement campaigns.

  • Partner with design agency on brand assets, campaign creative, event materials, and digital content.

  • Own website evolution: content strategy, UX improvements, SEO optimization, and conversion rate optimization.

  • Write and edit marketing content across channels—web copy, emails, sales enablement materials, social posts.

  • Manage marketing technology stack (CRM, marketing automation, analytics) and campaign operations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Product to launch new features and integrate customer feedback into positioning.

  • Enable Business Development with collateral, pitch materials, competitive intelligence, and sales tools.

  • Work with Engineering to create technical content and support developer marketing initiatives.

  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences.

Agency & Vendor Management

  • Manage relationships with communications and design agencies to ensure quality, timeliness, and alignment with brand.

  • Brief agencies on campaigns, provide feedback, and ensure deliverables meet strategic objectives.

  • Evaluate and onboard additional vendors or contractors as needed (e.g., freelance writers, event specialists).

Travel

  • Expect 2–3 days of monthly travel for major industry events and customer engagements.

  • Join in-person collaborations with our Bay Area team roughly once a quarter.

Who You Are

  • Startup Mindset & Agility: You move fast, adapt quickly, and embrace the scrappy resourcefulness required in early-stage companies. You're energized by wearing multiple hats, pivoting when needed, and finding creative solutions with limited resources.

  • Player-Coach Mentality: You're equally comfortable building strategy and executing tactical work—no task is beneath you in a startup environment.

  • B2B SaaS Expertise: You've driven demand generation and pipeline growth in fast-paced SaaS companies and understand enterprise buying cycles.

  • Dual Audience Fluency: You can toggle between B2B enterprise messaging and consumer-facing communications seamlessly.

  • AI-First Innovator: You're at the forefront of modern marketing, bringing deep curiosity about emerging AI tools and proven ability to integrate them into marketing workflows. You balance experimentation with practical application, constantly seeking ways to enhance productivity, personalization, and campaign effectiveness through technology.

  • Metrics-Driven: You tie marketing activities to business outcomes (ARR, pipeline, conversion rates) and optimize relentlessly based on data.

  • Future Leader: You're excited to grow this function and mentor a team as HealthEx scales.

  • Mission-Aligned: You're passionate about patient empowerment and using technology to improve healthcare outcomes.

  • Exceptional Communicator: You write crisp, compelling copy and can present complex ideas clearly to executives and technical audiences alike.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field; MBA a plus.

  • 5–10 years in marketing roles with demonstrated experience in B2B SaaS demand generation and growth marketing.

  • Proven track record of both consumer and B2B marketing execution—ideally in technology or platform businesses.

  • Experience at early-stage startups or high-growth companies where you built marketing programs from scratch.

  • Hands-on experience with marketing technology (CRM, marketing automation, analytics tools).

  • Strong social media marketing experience with ability to create engaging content and grow audience.

  • Minimal healthcare experience required—we value fresh perspective and transferable SaaS marketing expertise.

  • Portfolio of successful launches, campaigns, or events that drove measurable business impact.

  • Strong project management skills with ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Design skills (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Canva) are a bonus but not required.

Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation: Attractive base salary with performance-based bonus tied to company ARR and pipeline goals.

  • Equity Opportunity: Generous stock options at a growing early-stage company.

  • Growth & Leadership Path: Build and lead the marketing function as we scale; direct path to VP/CMO role.

  • Mission-Driven Culture: Your work empowers patients to control their data and improves healthcare outcomes.

  • Entrepreneurial Environment: Freedom to experiment, iterate, and make a tangible impact from day one.

  • Flexibility & Collaboration: Flexible work arrangements, monthly Bay Area team gatherings.

  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and other wellness perks.
