Technical Sales Engineer

About Us

HealthEx is on a mission to give patients more control over their health data while transforming how healthcare stakeholders collaborate. As an early-stage startup, we're fast, flexible, and passionate about using technology to improve patient outcomes. We're looking for an experienced Technical Sales Engineer who thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to help shape the future of healthcare data.

Role Overview

As our Technical Sales Engineer, you will be the technical voice of HealthEx in customer engagements—bridging the gap between our platform's capabilities and our customers' complex healthcare data needs. Reporting to the CCO with a dotted line to the CTO, you'll take the technical sales support load off the founding team, enabling them to focus on product development and strategy while you drive technical wins. You'll lead technical components of RFP responses, conduct technical due diligence meetings, design solutions leveraging HealthEx's SaaS platform, deliver compelling demos, and build trust with technical and business stakeholders at health systems, payers, life sciences companies, and digital health platforms. This role requires deep expertise in healthcare data interoperability standards (FHIR, TEFCA, HL7) and the ability to translate technical architecture into clear business value. You'll work embedded with our entire commercial team, collaborating closely with Business Development, Product, and Engineering to accelerate deal velocity and ensure customer success from day one.

What You'll Do

1. Technical Pre-Sales & Solution Design

  • Lead technical discovery with prospects to understand their data integration needs, use cases, and technical requirements.

  • Design solutions that leverage HealthEx's SaaS platform capabilities to solve complex healthcare data challenges.

  • Deliver compelling product demonstrations tailored to each customer's specific workflows and pain points.

  • Architect proof-of-concept (POC) implementations that showcase HealthEx's value and accelerate buying decisions.

  • Articulate technical differentiation and competitive advantages in customer conversations.

  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes for both technical and executive audiences.

2. RFP/RFI Technical Response & Due Diligence

  • Own technical sections of RFP and RFI responses, coordinating with cross-functional teams to deliver accurate, compelling content.

  • Lead technical due diligence meetings with customer IT, security, compliance, and architecture teams.

  • Address detailed questions about HealthEx's architecture, data security, compliance posture, and integration capabilities.

  • Develop reusable technical content libraries for common questions and objections.

  • Manage technical components of security questionnaires and vendor assessment processes.

  • Partner with Legal and Product teams to ensure accurate, consistent technical messaging.

3. Customer Engagement & Trust Building

  • Serve as the trusted technical advisor throughout the sales cycle, building credibility with customer technical stakeholders.

  • Navigate complex healthcare organizations to identify technical champions, blockers, and decision-making processes.

  • Conduct architecture review sessions with customer engineering and IT teams.

  • Address technical concerns proactively, working with Engineering and Product to resolve blockers quickly.

  • Support contract negotiations by clarifying technical scope, implementation timelines, and SLA commitments.

  • Facilitate smooth handoffs from sales to implementation, ensuring technical requirements are clearly documented.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Business Development to develop account strategies and win complex deals.

  • Work with Product (dotted line relationship) to communicate customer requirements, influence roadmap priorities, and validate new features.

  • Collaborate with Engineering (through CTO dotted line) to ensure technical feasibility of proposed solutions and resolve escalated customer issues.

  • Provide market and competitive intelligence to inform product strategy and positioning.

  • Enable the BD team with technical training, demo best practices, and objection handling guidance.

  • Support HealthEx's presence at major industry events through technical presentations, booth demos, and customer meetings.

  • Contribute to thought leadership content, webinars, and customer case studies that showcase technical capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Customer Success

  • Achieve quarterly and annual ARR goals as part of the commercial team.

  • Own and nurture key technical stakeholder relationships at prospects and customers, serving as their primary technical contact.

  • Maintain high win rates on opportunities where you're engaged in the technical sales process.

  • Drive faster sales cycles by proactively addressing technical concerns and building customer confidence.

  • Ensure seamless transitions from sales to implementation with clear technical documentation.

  • Act as technical escalation point for strategic accounts, maintaining strong relationships with customer engineering and IT teams.

Technical Expertise & Healthcare Standards

  • Maintain deep expertise in healthcare data interoperability standards: FHIR, TEFCA, HL7, and evolving industry frameworks.

  • Stay current on healthcare data exchange regulations, data security best practices, and compliance requirements.

  • Understand the technical landscapes of health systems, payers, EHR vendors, and digital health platforms.

  • Articulate HealthEx's approach to patient consent, data portability, and privacy-preserving data exchange.

Content & Enablement

  • Build and maintain technical sales collateral: solution briefs, architecture diagrams, integration guides, demo scripts.

  • Create compelling presentations that connect technical capabilities to business outcomes.

  • Develop technical response templates and FAQ libraries for RFPs and due diligence.

  • Train Business Development team on technical messaging and demo delivery.

Internal Process & Systems

  • Manage technical response workflows and timelines for RFPs and security questionnaires.

  • Track technical objections and competitive intelligence in CRM.

  • Document customer technical requirements and solution designs for Product and Engineering teams.

  • Continuously improve pre-sales processes, tools, and resources.

Travel & Events

  • Expect 3–5 days of monthly travel for customer meetings, technical deep dives, and on-site implementations.

  • Support HealthEx's presence at major industry conferences (HIMSS, VIVE, JPM, developer events) with technical presentations and demos.

  • Join in-person collaborations with our Bay Area team roughly once a month.
