How does HealthEx retrieve patient health records, and how reliable is it?
Two ways to reach records, both included: TEFCA IAS, a national health data network that automatically finds and pulls a patient's records without them needing to remember every provider or log into separate portals - and (g)(10) FHIR endpoint retrieval, a directory of thousands of additional provider systems we connect to directly, as a backup. Together, these reach roughly 90% of U.S. healthcare providers. Across our users, 70–80% automatically retrieve records from an average of 4–5 points of care with no manual effort. The whole process typically takes under five minutes, and coverage keeps growing as more providers join the network.
How do patients verify their identity and give consent?
Identity verification takes under a minute. Users can verify through CLEAR with a selfie and a government-issued ID. For consent, users see a screen showing exactly who will receive their data and why, with part of that language configurable by the partner. Users can exclude specific providers, revoke access anytime through their Wallet, and every action is captured in a full audit trail available via API.
What kinds of health data does HealthEx provide?
The full range of clinical data available under the USCDI v3 standard - diagnoses, labs, vitals, medications, allergies, immunizations, procedures, clinical notes, discharge summaries, imaging reports, care plans, insurance coverage, and more. Data can be normalized into consistent FHIR R4 format with standard medical terminology mapping, so your team gets clean, structured data regardless of source.
What type of IAS provider is HealthEx on TEFCA?
As a Request-Only IAS provider, HDX Labs, Inc. (dba HealthEx) doesn't provide bidirectional services. You can request access to a patient's health information via TEFCA exchange, but HealthEx isn't used to share information with other TEFCA participants.
What is HealthEx Wallet?
When a patient retrieves their records and shares them with a third-party app in the HealthEx network, that connection is saved to their personal HealthEx Wallet. If they later want to share their records with a different app in the HealthEx network, they don't need to search for providers or re-verify their identity - they just authorize sharing with the new app, and they're done. Every new organization that joins the network benefits from connections patients have already made elsewhere.
