Staff Product Manager, Data Inoperability
HealthEx | Full-time | Bay Area/ Hybrid
About HealthEx
HealthEx is a healthcare interoperability company building the connective tissue between patients, their health records, and the AI-powered applications transforming how care is delivered. We believe that people should own their health data — and that the apps, agents, and clinicians they trust should be able to act on it seamlessly.
We’ve built industry-first integrations with Anthropic’s Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and Salesforce, and we work with leading payers and digital health applications to make unified health records accessible wherever care decisions happen. Our platform connects to national health information exchanges (TEFCA / QHINs), FHIR endpoints, and clinical document sources — and the engineering team builds every layer of that stack.
What You'll Own
As our Product Manager for Data Interoperability, you will define and drive the strategy for how HealthEx discovers, connects to, retrieves, and writes data back to clinical systems across the U.S. healthcare ecosystem. You’ll operate at the intersection of healthcare policy, standards-based architecture, and product craft — translating patient and enterprise customer needs into interoperability capabilities that are best-in-class in reliability, speed, and cost efficiency.
Interoperability strategy. Define and evolve HealthEx’s overarching approach to data retrieval and write-back — spanning TEFCA / IAS, direct FHIR connections, CCDA document exchange, and emerging standards — with a clear-eyed view of cost, coverage, and reliability tradeoffs.
Product outcomes. Take end-to-end ownership of metrics that matter: records retrieval success rate, median retrieval speed, first-time retrieval failure rates, update reliability, and cost-per-retrieval across channels.
Planning, testing, and release design. Architect how the team plans, tests, and ships improvements to retrieval and write-back workflows — balancing quality with the tempo of an early-stage company.
Partner and vendor management. Identify the right standards bodies, exchanges, and technology partners to enable these workflows. Hold partners accountable to timelines, SLAs, and commitments
Policy and ecosystem engagement. Track policy developments across CMS, ONC, and industry forums (CARIN Alliance, Sequoia Project / RCE, CMS workgroups) and ensure HealthEx is well-represented and well-positioned as regulations evolve.
Requirements and specs. Write detailed product requirements and technical specifications — particularly for features that bridge AI agents and digital health apps to real-world care data and outcomes.
Cross-functional execution. Work hand-in-hand with the Engineering lead and QA engineer to maintain a high-quality bar while shipping with urgency. You are the DRI’s closest thought partner on implementation tradeoffs and launch readiness.
What You Bring
Deep healthcare data fluency. You understand FHIR (R4), CCDA, HL7v2, TEFCA, and the practical realities of connecting to Epic, Cerner/Oracle Health, and other EHR systems at scale. You’ve shipped interoperability products or led integration programs in production.
Product management rigor at a senior level. 7+ years of technical product management experience, with at least 3 years focused on healthcare data, platform APIs, or developer infrastructure. Staff or Principal-level scope: you’ve owned strategy, not just execution.
Start-from-the-customer instinct. You default to working backwards from patient needs and enterprise buyer pain. You can articulate why a retrieval workflow matters to a real person, not just to a spec document.
Builder’s mindset. You thrive in early-stage environments where ambiguity is high, resources are constrained, and your judgment shapes what gets built. You write clearly, prioritize ruthlessly, and ship iteratively.
Policy and ecosystem awareness. You follow CMS rulemaking, ONC interoperability rules, and TEFCA developments with genuine interest. Bonus if you’ve participated in CARIN, Sequoia, or similar forums.
Technical depth. You can read an API spec, understand OAuth/SMART-on-FHIR flows, evaluate build-vs-buy tradeoffs on infrastructure decisions, and have a productive architecture conversation with engineers.
AI curiosity. You are excited about — and ideally already experimenting with — how LLMs, AI agents, and copilot-style tools change product workflows and user experiences in healthcare.
What Makes This Special
Category-defining partnerships. We are live with Anthropic’s Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and Salesforce — powering AI agents with real patient data in ways no one else has shipped. You’d be the PM ensuring the data layer behind these integrations is world-class.
Meaningful scale in a small team. With a product team of ~5, every decision you make has outsized impact. You’ll shape product direction, not just manage a backlog.
The right moment in healthcare. TEFCA is rolling out, CMS interoperability mandates are tightening, and AI is finally making unified patient records actionable. HealthEx sits at the center of all three trends.
